School and District Report Card Appeals
Due August 13, 2014

A district may appeal the results of the 2013-2014 school and district report cards either on its own behalf or on behalf of its schools. ODE will consider appeals for report card ratings and Annual Measurable Objectives designations when the district submits the following:

* A written request from the school district superintendent or the superintendent's designee, received at the Oregon Department of Education by 5:00 PM on August 13, 2014.

These appeals will be presented to the Accountability Reporting Advisory Committee, as described in OAR 581-022-0090<http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/pages/rules/oars_500/oar_581/581_002.html>. The committee will make recommendations to the Oregon Department of Education on appeals from districts regarding accountability data where:

a) The school or district submitted incorrect data or failed to submit data due to unique events that could not be predicted and/or controlled by the school or district; and
b) The data issue could not otherwise be remedied by correcting data used in a school or district rating during the validation window available for each data collection; and
c) The data have not been publicly released in final form.

More information on the report cards and accountability can be found on the School and District Report Card page: http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?id=1786.

Appeals will only be accepted through email to josh.rew at state.or.us<mailto:josh.rew at state.or.us> or U.S. mail to 255 Capitol St NE Salem, OR 97310 Attn: Josh Rew - Report Card Appeals. Appeals sent by fax will not be accepted.

Appeals are due to ODE no later than Friday, August 13, 2014, 5:00 PM. Please note: If you are sending your appeal by U.S. mail, it must arrive by the 13th. Post-marks will not be accepted.

As described above, appeals are resolved in a committee process. For questions, please contact josh.rew at state.or.us<mailto:josh.rew at state.or.us>.

Note for Smarter Balanced Field Test Schools: There is a separate process for accountability appeals due to the Smarter Balanced Field Test. For more information on field test accountability appeals, see: http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?id=4136.

Reminder: Preliminary Report Card Rating Details were posted for district review on June 19, and school and district report cards will be available for preview on July 31.
