ISCN Members:

After months of research, input, revision and review, the final new DAS Statewide Energy and Resource Conservation Policy is complete and now in effect. You can find the policy here:

https://www.oregon.gov/das/Policies/107-011-010.pdf

This is the primary statewide policy on conserving resources in agency buildings, and it applies to all agencies that own, operate or lease buildings - with the exceptions stated in the policy. It covers energy efficiency and conservation, water conservation, waste reduction and recycling, lab and cafeteria operations, personal appliances, employee education and more. Through its implementation, we can achieve significant energy and water savings, waste reduction, GHG reduction and cost savings across your agencies and the enterprise.

As agency sustainability coordinators and champions, please help us spread the word. There are stated roles and responsibilities for many individuals in the policy, including agency administrators, facility managers, IT managers, lab and cafeteria operators and employees. You can help by:

- Sharing this policy in your internal newsletters and other employee communication materials

- Forwarding this email to your IT managers and facility managers

- Sharing with your Green Team and discussing how you can support implementation

We will also be separately holding meetings to present the policy to facility managers, IT managers, DAS tenants, the ABSD, and others. The Enterprise Leadership Team, comprised of 25 directors from the state's largest agencies, has reviewed and approved the policy.

DAS is here to help with tips and resources. We can provide, for example:

- A briefing paper on the policy updates (attached)

- Scorecards on your building's energy, water and waste for DAS tenants

- Guidance for your IT manager on implementing computer power management

- Access to an Energy Trust custom incentive program on plug loads

- Guidance for pushing more print requests to DAS Publishing

- Tips for employee waste reduction

- Forms for conducting night walks

- Access to energy, water and recycling signage for education

- And more

We will be reviewing the new policy at the March 10 ISCN meeting, so please come prepared with questions.

You are welcome to contact me or Jeremy Miller, DAS O&M Manager, in the interim with questions. Thank you for all of your input and help to get this across the finish line.

Best,

Dave
