All,
For those agencies with facilities located in Marion County, you may be well familiar with their "Earthwise" program. Back in 2020, we had a big push to support agencies in getting their buildings certified - and it was a success! We then held a recognition party to celebrate.
Things have changed, but we're still encouraging agencies to get their buildings re-certified under a green business/operations program. For buildings in Salem/Marion County, Earthwise has evolved into the Marion County Sustainable Business Network. You can get your buildings re-certified by simply visiting their web site<https://www.co.marion.or.us/PW/ES/disposal/programs/earthwise> and filling out the online application<https://app.greenbiztracker.org/business/index>. The County will then follow up with you about certification. The DAS Office is Sustainability is happy to help if you need data on energy and resource use, support finding statewide policies and more.
If your buildings are in communities without a green business certification program, there are a few resources you can use to guide your efforts. One is the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED for Operations guide<https://www.usgbc.org/resources/leed-v41-om-proposed-rating-system-clean>. And while Portland's Sustainability at Work Program was suspended a few years ago, you can still access checklists and resources on their web site<https://www.portland.gov/sustainabilityatwork/green-business-guides>.
There are also specialized checklists and rating systems for health facilities, laboratories and more. We are happy to help you in taking steps to make our workplaces more sustainable.
Best of all, if you get your buildings certified, let us know and we will spread the word to state government and Oregonians to show how our agencies are leading by example. Your success will be front and center in a future DAS Office of Sustainability newsletter and on our web site.
Much appreciated,
Dave
