Please join us on Saturday, November 1 at Tualatin Public Library for the OLA CSD Fall Workshop. We have a great day planned, including a two hour presentation by Laurie Danahy, Early Childhood Education Specialist from the Oregon Department of Education, called "Early Numeracy at the Library." What is early numeracy? Learn what the research says about it and how librarians can incorporate early number and math concepts into our library storytimes. Laurie has provided many Head Start trainings on this topic and will also discuss other ways that libraries can promote this important aspect of early brain development.

We will also take time in the afternoon to share wonderful new fingerplays, songs, flannelboards, and props that have made a storytime especially successful and for this, we need YOU! Please write up one item to share and email it to Karen Fischer at kfischer at cityofsalem.net. She will organize all the great ideas into a handout for Workshop attendees. We'll take an hour to allow demonstrations of your great ideas for the entire group.

Don't forget to bring one or more items for our silent and oral auctions, with proceeds used to provide scholarships to attend professional meetings for Youth Services librarians.

The cost to attend this day's event is $20 and includes lunch. Please register on the OLA CSD website at http://www.olaweb.org/mc/page.do?sitePageId=61033 no later than Wednesday, Oct. 29. Contact BJ Quinlan, bjquinlan at cityofsalem.net or 503.588.6039, if you have questions.
