Hello! There is an excellent, free opportunity for your community's early childhood professionals to learn how to apply for federal stimulus funds for Early Head Start. Many of you serve on committees or have partnerships with a variety of community groups focused on early childhood care and education. Please let your early childhood colleagues know about the free webinar described below.
These funds are for public or private non-profit organizations, including faith-based organizations or for-profit organizations, and must be used to "support the enrollment of additional children and families as well as create new teaching and other positions in Early Head Start programs."

Dear Early Childhood Council Colleagues:

The Oregon Community Foundation, Meyer Memorial Trust, Ford Family Foundation, and Children’s Institute are co-sponsoring a webinar on June 9 for organizations that are interested in the new Early Head Start funds that are available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Oregon has been allocated $5.7 million in expanded Early Head Start funds, but organizations must apply through a competitive process to receive the funds. The RFP was issued a few weeks ago, and applications are due July 9. (See the federal website http://eclkc.ohs.acf.hhs.gov/hslc/Early%20Head%20Start for more information.) This is a wonderful opportunity to expand Early Head Start services and partnerships in Oregon, and we want to make sure that interested Oregon organizations have the information they need to put together strong applications.

Mary Foltz, Developmental Consultant at the Early Childhood Training Center at PSU, will be the webinar presenter. It is free of charge and open to all. The information will be of interest to those who are planning to apply for federal funds this summer as a lead or partner organization, as well as anyone considering Early Head Start services in the future. The Obama Administration has signaled its intent to propose additional Early Head Start expansions in the coming years.

Attached is a Save the Date flyer that you can forward as you see fit. We have sent it out already through the Head Start Association, local commissions, and Healthy Start and Relief Nursery networks. We are also sharing the flyer with the child care R&R system. We will have more information next week about how to register, and I will forward that to you, as well.

Please let me know if you have questions!

Thanks –

Mary Louise
