[kids-lib] Call for ideas - 2013 Children's Summer Reading Manual-Nov 1 deadline

Hi everyone, 

Ever wonder how all the ideas get into the summer reading manual you received to help you plan One World Many Stories? Librarians from all over considered the theme and contributed great ideas. Here's your chance to dig in and contribute as well!

It's time to start digging up ideas for 2013's Dig Into Reading slogan. I've attached the chapter headings and ideas from Patti Sinclair, manual editor. We want to concentrate on tweens but not forget the primary grades. We are seeking crafts, games, and full program ideas along with reproducible activity sheets - puzzles, games, mazes, and so on. This is the first time we've done an "underground" theme - it should be fun. 

There was quite a spirited discussion at the annual meeting concerning snacks so they might be left out unless considered absolutely necessary to the program.

All Oregon public, volunteer, and tribal libraries are members of the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP), and receive a free summer reading manual. To get the most out of your membership, create an account on the CSLP website ( http://www.cslpreads.org/ ) and you will be able to access additional summer reading resources. CSLP membership dues and manual fees are paid for by the State Library with LSTA funds. Summer reading manuals are distributed by OLA's Children's Services Division, and both CSD and OYAN members represent you on CSLP committees and at the CSLP annual meeting.
