[kids-lib] Reading Rockets' Start w/ a Book & Summer Reading Tips

Sorry if this is a repeat, but I just learned about Reading Rockets' Start with a Book program which is aimed at helping parents and caregivers engage meaningful with K-3rd grade children through books and follow-up activities. There are 24 learning themes, and each includes resources in 5 areas:


1.      Choose books and book-related activities

2.      Explore more hand-on activities

3.      Try some summer writing

4.      Dig deeper with these websites

5.      Play and learn with interactive mobile apps

Here's the Bugs, Birds, and Animals theme as an example: http://www.startwithabook.org/booklists/bugs-birds-and-animals.

Or, try the more targeted Reading Adventure Packs: http://www.readingrockets.org/article/reading-adventure-packs-families. Library staff could gather the two related books, one fiction and nonfiction, and print the PDF of activities to give with the books.
