Washington County Cooperative Library Services worked with their county commissioners on a summer reading proclamation (attached) and a photo op with the commissioners, library staff, and kids dressed up as superheroes! If you're interested in doing something similar next year, their summer reading proclamation may serve as good template to get you started.
Any other good summer reading ideas? Please 'reply all' to share!
Keep up the great work!

Subject: Summer reading ideas! What are other Oregon libraries doing?
Hi! I just learned about two things Oregon libraries are doing for summer reading this year that are new ideas to me. Perhaps they're new to you too!
Baker County Library hosted "Parents are Heroes" in May to provide parents of young children a preview of the summer reading program, tips for reading and building early literacy skills with their children, a giveaway book, and a literacy bag. What a great way to let parents know that young children can participate in the summer reading program too-and sneak in an early literacy education session!
The Dalles Wasco County Library's grand prize for their K-5 Summer Learning Club is a ride to the first day of school in... a fire truck! This may be a good strategy for getting more boys to participate in and finish the summer reading program, and it's a great relationship building activity for the library and the fire department.
Is anyone else doing something they think may be unique this summer?
Thanks,
Katie
