I thought some of you might appreciate a feel-good story today…

Erin Fitzpatrick-Bjorn, who was at Vestal Elementary in PPS last year, is featured in this U.S. Department of Interior blog post about the Every Kid in a Park program.

https://www.doi.gov/blog/every-kid-park-brings-history-life:

“I really wanted to expose my students to the idea of how great parks are and give them a chance to visit virtually, as well as give them the experience of visiting a national park in person for the first time,” says Erin. “I knew I could teach students library and research skills while getting them interested in parks...An immersive experience is way more real to students than movies and books,” Erin says. “They told me it was the best field trip they had ever been on.”

Way to go, Erin!

Every Kid in a Park is a national program celebrating America's public lands in which 4th graders and their families can get free access to hundreds of parks, lands, and waters for an entire year. This year's 4th graders are eligible, and passes are good through August 31, 2017.
