Please pardon the cross-posting.

ALA’s Libraries Transform campaign is ongoing, and per the announcement below, there’s a new Because icon/statement to promote summer learning.

[Because the summer slide isn't playground equipment]

[Libraries Transform Newsletter]

This weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, and with it summer learning programs at libraries across the country. Our new statement, "Because the summer slide isn't playground equipment," is arriving just in time to help promote the value of summer learning programs at libraries. We're impressed by the creativity of the staff at Upper Arlington (Ohio) Public Library, who wrote this statement, so we're asking you to send us your ideas this month. See the end of the email for details.

Because College Is Just the Beginning

[Because those primary resources aren't going to cite themselves, Libraries Transform]DePaul University Librarian Scott Walter remembers what he was thinking when he heard ALA President Julie Todaro announce her “expert in the library” focus for the Libraries Transform campaign, “It struck me as a perfect platform for deepening academic library engagement.”

Around the same time, Walter’s colleague, Ashley McMullin, assessment and marketing librarian at DePaul, and her team were working on a plan to share more information about librarians with the campus through a new initiative called “library spotlights,” which shows how individual librarians are transforming the university. Libraries and the IoT

[Icons (coffee maker, phone, and refrigerator connected to the Internet]The Internet of Things, or IoT, has caused an explosion in the number of everyday devices that are able to collect and transmit data. Librarians recognize the balancing act required to implement IoT technologies in accordance with core principles of librarianship. Where IoT can improve access to materials or services, or provide learning opportunities, without compromising patron privacy, libraries are joining hands with their communities and diving in. Librarians are also leading the way on educating patrons about what IoT entails—its inner workings, uses, limits, and implications for our communities and society.
