Hello all,

I have a few important things to let you know about:

1. Public libraries can now host OBOB teams
The OBOB executive board has decided to have a one year trial of allowing public libraries to host OBOB teams. If your local schools are already participating in OBOB you probably do not want to sign-up your public library for OBOB. However... if for some reason your local schools are not participating in OBOB, this might be a way your community could participate in OBOB. Registration for OBOB is between Sept. 1-Nov. 1, and the registration fee is around $80. I'll send out the firm details in September. I suggest reading through the 2017-2018 handbook for additional details if your public library is considering participating. http://www.oregonbattleofthebooks.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/OBOB-Handbook-2017-2018.pdf The new handbook will be out this fall.

2. Apply today for a OBOB Title Selection committee: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdOCDPPWvPD_wfXQfrVSToVLu092zY_zVaPziM7BAWQI0ETwA/viewform
We are looking for library staff to serve on the title selection committees. Committee members read nominated books and discuss the books either in person or over GoToMeeting. The three meetings are on Saturdays from 11:45 - 3 p.m.: 11/3/18 in Newberg, 1/12 in TBD, 2/16 at Chemeketa Community College. OBOB does reimburse for mileage. More information on the title selection process can be found in the handbook (link above) on page 22.

3. Interested in nominating titles for 2019-2020 OBOB? Look for the nomination form coming out in September.

4. Interested in serving on the OBOB executive board? I'm currently serving year 3 of my two year term as OBOB Finance Chair and will be stepping down in May 2019. The OBOB executive board is a wonderful group of people, and the board makes important decisions that steer the direction of this amazing program. The "finance" part might seem intimidating, but OLA's Shirley Roberts is fantastic to work with and does quite a bit of the "finance" work. If you are interested please let me know and I can tell you more about the position.
