Hi,

I posted about this opportunity on the OASL and OSLIST listservs. With the previous announcement email, I had asked you to share it with Oregon school library staff you may partner or work with. If you did that, please pass along this new information, too.

Thanks,
Jen

Subject: [oasl-all] EDI & School Lib Collections: Mini-Grant Applications Open thru 4/21

Hi,

The application period for the EDI & School Library Collections mini-grants is open through the end of Wednesday, April 21st. The application, eligibility, purchasing criteria, timeline, and more information are available on the related LibGuide<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/lstagrants/edischool>. After clicking on the Apply Now button, you will need to create an account in the State Library's online grant portal, or log in if you have used the system in the past. If your organization already has an account, the system will alert you when you enter the employer identification number (EIN).

Here are a few points about eligibility and the process:

  * Non-profit private schools and public charter schools, as well as school districts on behalf of multiple schools, are eligible to apply. Except for private and charter schools, applications must be at the district level.
  * Only school library staff (classified or certified) may apply. It's fine if administrators or others assist you with the application, but a school library staff person must be the grant contact.
  * Each school listed as part of the application must have a library facility and some level FTE of paid library staff.
  * This is not a first-come, first-served process. All applications will be scored, and everyone will be notified by April 30th about whether or not they received a grant. Please preview the scoring rubric<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Y-QPZN9Wsp9r9AF8W_bNj-nyXcvbZ2VN-zm9eeYQY4k/edit?usp=sharing> before answering the application questions.
  * Grant recipients will receive funds within 30 days (hopefully sooner) of being notified. In other words, you will receive funds up front instead of being reimbursed for purchases.

I can answer questions about eligibility, the application questions, etc. If you have questions about the online grant portal, please contact my colleague, Tamara Ottum (tamara.ottum at slo.oregon.gov<mailto:tamara.ottum at slo.oregon.gov>). The previous email in which I announced the grant opportunity is below.

Thanks,
Jen

Subject: EDI & School Lib Collections: Mini-Grant Opp Coming Soon

Hi,

Great news! The State Library has allocated $70,000 for mini-grants to fund school library collection development with a focus on equity, diversity, and/or inclusion. The maximum award ranges from $10,000 to $250 based on student enrollment. Oregon school districts and non-profit private schools [and public charter schools] are eligible to apply. Except for private [and charter] schools, applications must be at the district level. Each district may decide how many and which schools to include, based on priorities, needs, etc. The application period will open on Monday, April 12 and close Wednesday, April 21. Grant recipients will be notified by April 30, and a check will be issued within 30 days (hopefully sooner, but recipients can prepare orders while waiting on the check, if needed). In other words, recipients will receive funds up front instead of through a reimbursement model. All funds must be expended and invoices/receipts submitted to the State Library by August 31, 2021.

A colleague is creating a LibGuide with all of the details and the application link, and I'll post when that is ready. So you can start planning, here's an overview (eligibility, purchasing criteria, maximum allowable grant request, timeline, requirements, etc.) [link removed] and a preview of the rubric that will be used to score applications<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Y-QPZN9Wsp9r9AF8W_bNj-nyXcvbZ2VN-zm9eeYQY4k/edit?usp=sharing>. As a heads up, applicants will need their district or private school's employer identification number (EIN) when creating a profile in the grant application software. Administrators or the head secretary should have that information.

Questions? Please ask.

Thanks,
Jen
