Subject: [Libs-Or] Apply for pre-paid registration to "Attending to Dynamics of Power When Facilitating Cross-Racial Conversations" (Infopeople online course)

Hello Library Community!

The State Library is pleased to offer the opportunity for Oregon library staff to attend Infopeople's online, four-week course, Attending to Dynamics of Power When Facilitating Cross-Racial Conversations<https://infopeople.org/civicrm/event/info?id=1116&reset=1>, from September 10 - October 7, 2024. The State Library will pay registration for up to 20 Oregon library staff members to attend.

Description:

This course, co-facilitated by a Black Latina and a White woman, will introduce you to 1) what to pay attention to, and 2) what facilitation skills are needed to guide the conversation to create more equitable outcomes. There are historic, cultural, and systemic dynamics of power that are at play in interracial conversations. We need racially conscious, culturally relevant skills to employ in order to ensure sustainable conversations that achieve equitable participation and equitable outcomes.

Please visit: https://infopeople.org/civicrm/event/info?id=1116&reset=1 for a full description.

Eligibility:
This opportunity is available to:

  * Public (including county law libraries), academic, school, tribal library staff in Oregon
  * Eligible applicants will be approved on a first come, first served basis for 20 applicants
  *   Deadline: Friday September 6, 2:00p

Participant Expectations:

  * This 4-week course will include two interactive online sessions:
     *   September 17th at 10 am PT
     *   October 1st at 10 am PT

Participants should also plan to attend a follow-up Zoom meeting hosted by Darci Hanning (CE Coordinator) on Wednesday, October 16, 10:00a - 11:00a.

Please make every effort to ensure that you can attend these three meetings before enrolling in the course.

  * In this self-directed four-week course, participants will find weekly readings, useful resources, and practical assignments. Each week, learners will be expected to interact in the online discussion forums and complete an assignment. While participants can work on the course materials at any time of day or night, learners are strongly encouraged to complete the weekly readings, discussions, and assignments each week.
  * Time Required: To complete this course, you can expect to spend 2 to 2 ½ hours per week, with options for further study and application, for a total of 10 hours. You can work on each module at your own pace, at any hour of the day or night. However, it is recommended that you complete each week's assignments within that week to stay in sync with other learners.

If you are unable or unwilling to meet these expectations, please be kind and leave a place for someone else.

Requirements:

  * Please note: Registered participants are required to complete coursework and submit the Certificate of Completion to the State Library. Failure to do so without notifying the State Library before the end of the course may impact participants eligibility in future State Library pre-paid learning events.
