Please pardon the cross-posting.
Hi Folks,
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) is seeking input about the draft of the Adolescent Literary Framework<https://www.oregon.gov/ode/educator-resources/standards/ELA/Pages/Adolescent-Literacy.aspx> (grades 6-12), which will extend/complement the existing Early Literacy Framework<https://www.oregon.gov/ode/educator-resources/standards/ELA/Pages/Early-Literacy.aspx> (grades K-5). After a quick review of the draft, I noticed that "local libraries" and "classroom libraries" are mentioned, but not school libraries. What stands out to you? ODE wants to know.
On behalf of ODE, WestEd will host a series of engagement sessions between May 7th and May 21st. They want to receive "input from educators, literacy researchers, practitioners and community to ensure the framework is responsive, complete, and reflective of literacy research." Engagement session dates, times, and registration links are below. Please consider participating and/or spreading the word.
Thanks,
Jen
P.S. While on the topic of literacy, I'll share that the Brooklyn Public Library is hosting a webinar series, Early Literacy & the Science of Reading<https://discover.bklynlibrary.org/?search=early+childhood+symposium&event=true>, on May 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th. "While it is geared to early childhood educators and we may touch on issues in NYC, it is open to everyone...While you're encouraged to attend live, all registrants will receive access to recordings to view at their convenience for a limited time."

Dear Literacy Leaders,
In spring 2023, the Oregon Department of Education published Oregon's Early Literacy Framework focusing on literacy for K-5. This framework elevates Oregon's shared vision for lifting literacy outcomes in Oregon, with a focus on reading research and updated literacy resources, all with the clear aim of inspiring better practice and improving the quality of literacy learning for every young reader and writer in Oregon. In response to what we continue to hear from educators and leaders statewide, there is a real need to help clarify and confirm what matters most in teaching adolescent readers and writers to attain high levels of literacy and multilingual literacy. We are working with WestEd to design Oregon's Adolescent Literacy Framework for grades 6-12 and we are seeking your input.
In continuity with the development process used for Oregon's Early Literacy Framework, ODE and WestEd are publishing a preview draft of Oregon's Adolescent Literacy Framework and inviting feedback through engagement sessions between May 7th and May 21st.
Seeking Your Input: Adolescent Literacy Framework Feedback Sessions
WestEd will be hosting a series of engagement sessions to collect input on the first draft of Oregon's Adolescent Literacy Framework, which will be posted here<https://rw2yhkq5.r.us-west-2.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fwww.oregon.gov%2Fode%2Feducator-resources%2Fstandards%2FELA%2FPages%2FAdolescent-Literacy.aspx%3Futm_medium=email%26utm_source=govdelivery/1/0101018f4f4310f9-1ec403b4-2e9a-4708-a71f-b52e3006b4c2-000000/1YlTBLFt-OGhp7Jo8G5RC2gKE9U=373> by end of day May 3rd and emailed to all registered participants (Note: Link will not be live until 5/3).
Purpose: To share the preview draft of Oregon's Adolescent Literacy Framework and receive input from educators, literacy researchers, practitioners and community to ensure the framework is responsive, complete, and reflective of literacy research.
Next Steps: First, identify the engagement session you plan to attend and register. Then, preview the draft framework before your scheduled engagement session.
As you review the first draft, please keep in mind:
* This is just the first draft. Your feedback will make it better!
* The final version of Oregon's Adolescent Literacy Framework will be available in the fall/winter of 2024.
