I'm sharing the latest update<https://www.oregon.gov/library/Pages/Updates.aspx> about the situation with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and our allotment of 2025 Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds, which is basically for July 2025 through June 2026. It's slow, but the process is still moving forward for the remainder of LSTA 2025 funds. This week, the State Library received the LSTA 2025 Allotment table (attached), which shows how much each state is receiving in LSTA funds for the current 2-year cycle that ends Sept 30, 2026. As you may recall, many states have only received a partial 50% award notification so far, so the allotment table that shows the expected full funding for LSTA 2025 for all states & territories, including the three that had previously been excluded, brought a sigh of relief.


The LSTA 2025 funds are what we spend in FY26, including payroll and statewide services. As shared last month, the State Library will not be issuing competitive sub-grants in FY26.

And today, in a routine check of the federal payment system (eGMS) that the State Library uses to request funds from IMLS, the full LSTA 2025 award amount showed up for the first time. Sharing the screenshot here:

The official LSTA 2025 award letter is expected next week.

Whenever we talk about federal funds, I'm always struck by the impact this tiny smidgin of the federal budget has across the country. LSTA funds are $180,000,000, but library staff across the country stretch these dollars to deliver services that make a difference every day in their communities. Thank you for your work and dedication to keeping libraries running, and information flowing, even in these hard times.
