[kids-lib] Promote Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award + 2026-27 OBOB Titles + ORCA + Gallagher

I'm forwarding information about the Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award and OBOB. Please see the emails below. The emails may have been posted to various listservs, but I thought I'd use this as an opportunity to remind folks about additional reading programs.

There are several Oregon-based reading engagement programs, most being readers' choice awards in which students / youth read nominated titles and vote for their favorite.

  *   Patricia Gallagher Children's Choice Picture Book Award<https://www.oregonread.org/projects-and-grants/patricia-gallagher-awards> - Aimed at those who engage with picture books; voting opens in April
  *   Oregon Battle of the Books<https://www.oregonbattleofthebooks.org/> (OBOB) - Not a readers' choice program; is a voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program in which students "battle" using their knowledge of the year's books; categories for grades 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12

Consider participating with your students / patrons in one or more of these excellent reading engagement opportunities. Besides being fun, participation supports standard 1 of the Reading Engagement strand of the Oregon School Library Standards<https://www.olaweb.org/school-library-standards>, which is to develop an appreciation for reading. Also, please consider sharing this information with library and teacher colleagues.

Okay, here we go! These are very partial lists of the 2026-2027 OBOB Titles, because I am still checking availability in paperback of some titles the committees really hope to use. Please note the covers are just the first ones I saw and may not reflect the actual cover of the edition we land on. But I know some people are eager to see books as soon as possible.
