Position Announcement
Instructional Designer / Social Science Librarian 
The Valley Library
Oregon State University

Oregon State University Libraries seeks an innovative and dynamic
individual to join our forward-looking organization.  Reporting to the
Head of Undergraduate Learning & Library Information Access, the
position supports the instruction and research needs of the OSU
community. 
Oregon State University is one of only two American universities to hold
the land, sea, space and sun grant designations, and is a Carnegie
Doctoral/Research - Extensive Status institution. OSU is located in
Corvallis, a community of 50,000 people situated in the Willamette
Valley between Portland and Eugene. Ocean beaches, lakes, rivers,
forests, high desert, and the rugged Cascade and Coast Ranges are all
within a 100-mile drive of Corvallis. OSU enrolls nearly 19,000 students
from all 50 states and more than 80 countries.  The university has an

Responsibilities:  
*	Enhance OSU Libraries instruction in the online environment
through collaboration with other librarians.  
*	Contribute to the ongoing development of OSU Libraries library
instruction program learning assessment cycle.  
*	Participate in the library's expanding digital initiatives by
applying new technologies to services and acting as a content advisor to
graduate students and faculty. 
*	Provide chat and in-person reference service and consult with
faculty, graduate and upper-division students on research. Develop
strong liaison relationships with academic departments to build or
enhance digital libraries and research collections. 
*	Actively pursue opportunities for faculty to contribute to the
institutional repositories and digital libraries.  
*	Participate in faculty governance and University service.
Contribute at the national and regional levels to the library and
academic communities by engaging in research and professional
development by publishing and reporting in professional journals,
presenting at conferences and meetings, and providing service and
leadership to library and academic societies and organizations. 

Qualifications:  
Required:  Bachelor's or higher degree or equivalent; M.L.S. / M.L.I.S.
from an accredited institution or a foreign equivalent degree; two years
experience in an academic setting; working knowledge and understanding
of learning styles and learning theories; ability to develop library
instruction for face-to-face or online learning environment;  excellent
oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated
ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and to work independently
in a service-oriented environment; ability to work and negotiate with
faculty and colleagues on new services and collections; proven
initiative and self-direction. Demonstrated ability to work effectively
and collegially with a diverse population.

Preferred:  Bachelor's or higher degree in a social science discipline
or two years academic library experience in a social science discipline,
preferably education, sociology, psychology, or family services and
human development.

Employment Conditions: 
This position is a full-time, 12-month, fixed annual tenure track
appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor.  Renewal is at the
discretion of the University Librarian.  Minimum salary of $40,008
annually plus medical, dental and life insurance are available; staff
tuition fee privileges for employee or a dependent at an Oregon
University System school (restrictions apply).  This position earns 15
hours of vacation and 8 hours of sick leave each month.
