Notice to Oregon Librarians:

On August 15, 2007, Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski signed into law a bill requiring safety education for all persons operating a Class I (ATV or quad) or Class III (dirt bike) ATV for recreational purposes on public lands. Training requirements will be phased in over a period from 2009 to 2014. Starting December 30, 2008, all youth 15 years of age and younger and adults supervising these youth must complete online safety training.

To comply with these new requirements, riders will complete a free-of-charge course available at the following website: http://www.rideatvoregon.com/

Riders will have to log onto the site, go through the sign up process, study the chapters, complete the chapter quizzes, complete the final exam, and complete the process for receiving their own plastic ATV Safety Education Card(s). The complete process should take about two hours.

Most riders will use their personal computers to take the online course. However, some may wish to use computers which are open to public use at libraries to complete the course.

If there are any questions, contact Terry Bergerson at 503-986-0747 or terry.bergerson at state.or.us.
