*Are you ready for March 5 – OLA Legislative Day?*

* *

* *

There are a few days left to make appointments with your State Senators and
Representatives for OLA Legislative
Day<http://olanetwork.wikispaces.com/OLA+Legislative+Day>
. The big day is Thursday, March 5 at the Oregon State Capital.

*Virtual Visits*: If you are unable to come to Salem please make a virtual
visit (email) to your Legislators. Send them an email on Thursday, March 5
about how you use Ready-to-Read, your support of school libraries or any
other library issues. Take a look at OLA’s Issue Papers for
2009<http://olanetwork.wikispaces.com/OLA%27+Issue+Papers+for+the+2009+Legislature>for
more ideas.
*Please* let us know if you are visiting virtually by putting that
information on the
schedule<http://olanetwork.wikispaces.com/OLA+Legislative+Day+Appointments>in
the “Virtual Visits” column.

*In Person Visits*:

We should have lots of fun on this day.

There will be handouts available for you with talking points in the Galleria
at the Capital and at the 9:00 a.m. briefing that is being held at 9:00 a.m.
at the State Library, Room 102. There will also be several people around
who have been participating in this program for years that will be happy to
help you.

Legislators will be able to pick out a book for one of their local libraries
in the Galleria.

OLA and OASL photographers will be visiting legislators to take their photo
for a Read Poster. They may also show up in the Galleria, so we will have a
photographer there.

We will have an informal lunch at Willamette University, Goudy Commons. One
room will be set aside for us.

You can visit staff of Legislators for who appointments have not been made.

*What to do today*: Make an appointment with your Senator or
Representative! If you can’t make an appointment with a Legislator then
plan on meeting with their staff. Contact information can be found at
http://www.leg.state.or.us/findlegsltr/ .

After you make your appointment please put that information on the
schedule<http://olanetwork.wikispaces.com/OLA+Legislative+Day+Appointments>or
contact me, Diedre at
diedrec at charter.net , and I will put the information on the schedule for
you.

At this moment we have visits scheduled to 17 of 30 Senators and 26 of 60
Representatives. It would be great if we could add many more visits before
March 5.

It is important that the Legislators on the House Education Committee are
contacted about HB
2586<http://olanetwork.wikispaces.com/OLA%27+Issue+Papers+for+the+2009+Legislature>
. If one of these people is in your district please contact them and set up
an appointment.
