Hi everyone,
As you know, we recently had a great OPB connection with Lauren Kessler, spoke on Think Out Loud for Oregon Reads. Emily Harris, the host of Think Out Loud, would like to do a "summer reading" series on her show and she'd like the help of Oregon Librarians. Below is the e-mail I received from her with the details.
Think Out Loud is planning a series of interviews with Northwest authors over the summer. I wonder if you might be able to help me get some suggestions from librarians around the state.
Here's what we're looking for:
-Authors of fiction or poetry. Great writing!
-Some Pacific Northwest connection - ideally they live here, or they're from here, or at least their work is set here.
-We are looking for geographic diversity - we want to talk with authors from a variety of places. We'll lean toward Oregon/SW Washington connections, and certainly look around the state, but would reach to the greater Pacific NW as well.
-We are also looking for diversity of voice, style and experience.
-If anything is known about the author's backstory or personal story, that would be great to know.
I would add that it would be good to know if they are good speakers or not ;-)
So... if you have an author you would like to suggest to Emily, please e-mail her direct at EHarris at opb.org<mailto:EHarris at opb.org>, perhaps putting "library summer reading idea" in the subject. I would also suggest, if you have an adult summer reading program at your library, that you mention that as well as I suggested she might add that tidbit of info as they are doing this series. This is yet another opportunity for librarians to share their readers advisory skills with the world!
Leah
