*General Description:  *Develops and coordinates the Library's distance 
learning services and programs; coordinates initiatives and training for 
Library faculty and staff to support distance services in their 
respective areas; supports course-integrated online information literacy 
instruction in a collaborative environment; develops policies and 
procedures for providing access to materials to distributed learning 
students and faculty; participates in the library's dynamic reference 
and instruction programs; and collaborates on the selection of 
information resources to support the distance education needs of a 
diverse institution.  Some evening and weekend reference duty and/or 
instruction is required.  Fixed-term faculty contribute to faculty 
governance activities within the Library and the University, engage in 
community and professional service, and pursue an active publication and 
research agenda, seeking grants as appropriate.  This entry-level, 
full-time, 12-month fixed-term faculty position reports to the Assistant 
University Librarian for Public Services.

 

*Specific Responsibilities*

·         Develop and coordinate the Library's distance instruction, 
services, and programs in collaboration with the Assistant University 
Librarian for Public Services

·         Experience designing and developing online learning objects 
and guides, Web tutorials, digital media, and performing post-production 
editing

·         In collaboration with the Information Literacy Coordinator and 
Subject Librarians, develop and support course-integrated online 
information literacy instruction.

·         Coordinate the development of online learning objects and 
guides, including tutorials, with a focus on transferrable information 
literacy skills.

·         Work with the Manager of Public Access Services to develop 
policies and procedures for providing access to materials to distributed 
learning students and faculty.

·         Work with the Office of Information Technology and the 
Library's Resources Services & Technology division to integrate Library 
content into the University's virtual learning environment (BlackBoard^® ).

·         Serve as liaison to the School of Extended Studies in serving 
their online programs.

·         Establish short and long-range goals, objectives, and 
priorities, aligned with those of the Library and the University.

·         Maintain current expertise through participation in workshops, 
classes, professional associations and networks, and through continued 
awareness of the scholarly literature.

·         Provide reference and information services for the 
University's students and faculty as well as members of the general 
public through work at the reference desk and through various 
information and communications technologies. Includes work during some 
evening and weekend hours.

·         Participate in the Library's information literacy efforts and 
general instruction program

·         Maintain awareness of scholarly communications and copyright 
issues in general and contribute to advocacy efforts.

·         Participate in continual program planning and assessment 
activities, including the collection of relevant data on inputs, 
outputs, and outcomes.

·         Contribute to the work of relevant committees and workgroups 
in the Library and the University.

·         Contribute to the work of professional associations, locally, 
regionally, nationally, or internationally.

·         Pursue active publication and research agenda and meet 
expectations for faculty service and scholarship in accordance with the 
Library and University's fixed-term faculty review guidelines.

·         Adhere to University and Library policies and procedures, 
including Portland State University's Professional Standards of Conduct 
(http://www.hrc.pdx.edu/policies/ProfessionalStandards.htm).

·         Communicate openly and professionally with staff, colleagues, 
and with Library administration.

·         Occasionally direct the work of part-time student employees, 
volunteers, or interns.

·         Support the mission, goals, and objectives of the University 
and the Library.

·         Adhere to the current Reference and User Services 
Association's (RUSA) /Guidelines for Behavioral Performance of Reference 
and Information Service Providers./

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

*Required Qualifications*

·         ALA-accredited MLS.

·         Experience developing online learning objects and guides, web 
applications, digital media, and with post-production editing.

·         Demonstrated understanding of, and expressed commitment to the 
principles and standards of information literacy.

·         Work experience in current pedagogy of online information 
literacy instruction.

·         Instructional technology training and experience.

·         Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check 
and provide transcripts

 

*Preferred Qualifications*

·         Bi-lingual in English/Spanish and cultural competency in 
serving Latin American populations.

·         Demonstrated understanding of the relationships among web 
applications, network topology, database design, and data security

·         Experience with virtual learning environments, such as Blackboard.

·         Flexibility and ability to work positively in a fast-paced, 
changing environment while collaborating with diverse colleagues, 
faculty, students, and the general public.

·         Knowledge of database technologies 
and applications development with one or more programming languages 
(e.g. PHP, C, Java, Perl).

*Compensation*

The starting annual salary rate for this position will be dependent upon 
qualifications and experience, with an excellent benefits package 
including fully paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation 
package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependant at 
any of the Oregon University System schools.
