The American Library Association (ALA) and the Association of Research
Libraries (ARL) recently submitted
comments<http://www.wo.ala.org/districtdispatch/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/LOC.pdf>to
the Library of Congress (LOC) regarding mandatory deposit of published
electronic works available only online.

In their comments, the ALA and ARL state that this initiative to preserve
and provide access to journal literature is necessary in light of
significant technological advances, such as the increasing number of
journals being published only online. The ARL and ALA commend the Library of
Congress for proposing this initiative to ensure that it continues building
the collections of the library.
