It was my pleasure as Past Co-Chair of the Oregon Young Adult Network,
to coordinate the selection of the 2012 winner of the prestigious OYAN
You’re Excellent Award.  Since it’s inception in 2007, OYAN has
recognized five people for their excellence in library service to
teens.  The past honorees came from Eastern Oregon, the Willamette
Valley, Portland and now include Central Oregon. Each honoree has
demonstrated that good things are happening for teens across the
state.  This year’s honoree is no different.

For the past seven years, April Witteveen has provided leadership,
commitment, and service to her library, its teen patrons, and across
the state in numerous ways.  She has brought the best teen authors to
the area, visited area schools and juvenile centers to promote
reading, been a leader in both OYAN and OLA, and has now moved to the
national stage with her participation in the Amelia Bloomer Project.
And if that’s not enough, she has the most unique outreach program in
Oregon…roller derby!

Let’s hear it for Oregon’s own, ”Dame Deviant, 796.21”, April
Witteveen, Deschutes Public Library!
