The Oregon Library Association's Academic Division (ACRL-OR) and the Pacific Northwest Religious and Theological Library Association (PNWRTLA) are co-sponsoring an online copyright workshop, presented by Kevin L. Smith , Director of Copyright and Scholarly Communications at Duke University. This workshop will be on February 27th, April 3rd, and May 1st from noon-1 PM (Pacific Time). The topics will be as follows:

February 27th - How did we get into this mess: Copyright and its discontents. This will be a chance to review the basic of copyright in the context of explaining why the law has been so unable to respond to the challenges of the digital age.

April 3rd - Libraries go to court: a review of recent cases. This will provide some updates about the status of four recent copyright cases involving academic libraries - GSU, UCLA, HathiTrust and Kirtsaeng v. Wiley -- along with lessons that can be taken from each.

May 1st - Policy decisions in the copyright arena. This will provide an explicit discussion about choices to be made while formulating copyright policy for higher education institutions.

You may register for any or all of these. Registration costs for individuals are $50 for all/ $20 each. Registration costs for groups are $100 for all/ $40 each.
