Several key civil liberties organizations have announced their support for
the Amash Amendment, new legislation introduced by Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI)
that would stop funding the National Security Agency's (NSA) warrantless
surveillance programs. The legislation would amend the Defense
Appropriations Bill so that the NSA could only use USA PATRIOT Act Section
215 orders to collect phone records on individuals who are the subject of a
terrorism or espionage investigation. Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI)
co-sponsored the amendment.
