Last week, the ALA Digital Literacy Task Force released their recommendations to "advance and sustain library engagement in digital literacy initiatives nationwide. These recommendations build on the January 2013 Task Force report Digital Literacy, Libraries, and Public Policy and constitute a call to action on the part of the ALA, library education programs, front-line librarians, various funding bodies, and the diverse stakeholders who use and support library services. Libraries of all types - school, academic, and public - play a vital role in ensuring all people have the skills and abilities to succeed in the Digital Age."

The ALA Task Force included many sub-steps and examples aimed at specific library types under their four recommendations about advancing digital literacy:

* Increase investment in digital literacy

* Develop and sustain robust partnerships and collaborations

* Strengthen and expand research and assessment (of digital literacy efforts)

* Increase access to digital literacy programming

Related is the new Public Library Association website, www.digitallearn.org<http://www.digitallearn.org>, which is an "Institute of Museum and Library Services grant-funded project to create an online hub for digital literacy support and training. This site is launching in June 2013 and is intended to build upon and foster the work of libraries and community organizations as they work to increase digital literacy across the nation."

There's also http://www.digitalliteracy.gov/, which is described as "the destination for digital literacy resources and collaboration. Use it to share and enhance the tools necessary to learn computer and Internet skills needed in today's global work environment." The site recognizes the role that libraries play in teaching digital literacy: http://www.digitalliteracy.gov/content/april-school-library-month. Of course, there are tons of other resources, too, I know. :-)
