Oregon Intellectual Freedom News Database
http://commons.pacificu.edu/iforegon/

The OLA Intellectual Freedom Committee is proud to announce that a database of newspaper articles about intellectual freedom issues in Oregon is now available. The database includes 462 newspaper articles from 1946 - 2010, with additional articles being added regularly. Most articles are about challenges to library materials and other censorship-related issues.

The database can be searched by keyword, article title, newspaper name, date, city/location, name of challenged book or material, organizations, schools, or individuals involved. Articles can also be browsed by date. While not all inclusive, this repository covers a wide range of challenges which have occurred in Oregon over the past 50+ years.

Search results provide an abstract of the article, keywords, newspaper, date, location, participants, and outcome. Full text of the articles will be added and made available for download as permission is obtained from individual newspaper publishers. Currently the full text of an article can be requested by contacting the coordinator of the Oregon Intellectual Freedom Clearinghouse<http://www.oregon.gov/OSL/LD/Pages/intellectual.aspx>, currently Katie Anderson (katie.anderson at state.or.us<mailto:katie.anderson at state.or.us>).

This database can also be accessed from links on the Intellectual Freedom Toolkit<http://www.olaweb.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=160> on the OLA website and Northwest Central<http://www.nwcentral.org/intellectual-freedom-issues-oregon-news-database>. A publicity flyer for this database is attached if you would like to help spread the word about this resource in your community.
