After several years of intensive ALA advocacy with the nation's
largest publishers to bring ebook titles into libraries, significant
progress has been made. Learn about ALA ebook lending initiatives and
success stories during ALA's *Virtual Town Hall on
Ebooks*<http://ala.informz.net/z/cjUucD9taT0zNTM1ODE4JnA9MSZ1PTEwMDczNTM5MjMmbGk9MTkyOTU3MDg/index.html>,
an interactive online session that will explore ALA ebook advocacy efforts
and future directions. The member town hall will take place from 11 a.m.-
noon Central time, Wednesday, October 23, 2013. *Register

.

ALA members will have the opportunity to join ALA President Barbara
Stripling, Immediate Past President Maureen Sullivan, and the leadership of
the ALA's Digital Content Working Group (DCWG) to learn about ALA ebook
activities and plans. Panelists will provide views on the current digital
publishing climate and discuss ways that ALA can better advocate for
important library interests. Come hear about the inside story of the many
trips to New York City made by ALA leadership, including the most recent
one completed just this week.

The virtual town hall also will explore emerging subjects in the ebook
lending arena, including digital preservation, access to self-published
work, and libraries as publishers. An audience question-and-answer period
will immediately follow the panel discussion.

*Panelists include:*

   - *Barbara Stripling*, ALA president
   - *Maureen Sullivan*, ALA immediate past president
   - *Keith Michael Fiels*, ALA executive director
   - *Sari Feldman*, executive director of the Cuyahoga County Public
   Library and DCWG co-chair
   - *Robert Wolven*, associate university librarian of Columbia University
