The Board of Trustees seeks an energetic new leader to foster a team environment and work with staff, local government, organizations, agencies and communities and build on the Library's already outstanding reputation for service to achieve even greater levels of excellence and community participation. The Library is an independent taxing district serving the City of Las Vegas and the unincorporated urban and outlying communities in Clark County-an 8,000 square mile area. Governed by a ten-member Board of Trustees (five appointed by the Las Vegas City Council and five by the Clark County Board of Commissioners) the Library staff (733 full and part-time workers) serve the 1.5 million citizens of the District utilizing a $52 million budget to operate 25 locations-13 urban branches and 11 outlying libraries-each featuring an array of events, workshops, programs, training, celebrations, films and story times tailored to each location. Recipient of many awards over the years-the District received 6.5 million visits to the branches and circulated 14.5 million items in 2013. The Library District Foundation provides additional support for community education, employment, entertainment and economic vitality.
