2014 Request for Proposals: Discussion Leaders

Proposals for 2014–2016 Conversation Project programs due March 14, 2014

Apply online at oregonhumanities.org

Oregon Humanities is looking for people eager to traverse the valleys, mountains, and deserts of Oregon’s thirty-six counties, bringing neighbors, friends, and strangers together to exchange words and ideas as Conversation Project discussion leaders.

Since 2009, the Conversation Project has worked with nearly 200 nonprofits across the state to offer more than 400 discussions on topics as varied as race, land-use policies, gender, censorship, and the future of rural communities.

What happens when people sit together and talk? The world becomes a more connected, more interesting, more vital place.

Conversation Project discussions are led by facilitators trained by Oregon Humanities to connect a subject to participants’ experiences and to the local community, and challenge attendees to think in new ways without advocating a particular viewpoint.

Conversation Project leaders come from every walk of life, are interested in leading public conversations, and have understanding of a topic through experience, formal education, or professional training. Leaders receive a $200 honorarium, as well as mileage reimbursement and a meal stipend, for each program they facilitate.

Be a part of this movement to engage Oregonians with one another. Proposals for Conversation Project programs, which will be available from November 1, 2014, through October 31, 2016, are due March 14, 2014. A full request for proposals and online application may be found at oregonhumanities.org.
