This really has been a helpful discussion.

I know that there is no proof of this but I had someone living with me who
used e-cigarettes in my house, though he was not suppose to do this.  The
smell is why I discovered his actions, that and the fact that it was
affecting my asthma.  The kind he was using was kind of like some odd and
obnoxious incense (and I do like some incense).  He didn't think I would
smell it but I really did.
