SJSU SLIS Expands Professional Development Opportunities

 

Looking for professional development opportunities? The San José State
University (SJSU) School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) is
delighted to share a few upcoming online professional development
opportunities designed for information professionals.

 

ALA / SJSU SLIS eCourse

The SJSU information school and the American Library Association (ALA) have
teamed up to offer advanced eCourses on topics highly relevant to
professionals working in the library and information science field. The
inaugural online course, the first of its type to be offered by ALA, begins
in June and will cover web design and development.

lecturer for SJSU SLIS and innovative web developer, will take participants
from basic background, introductions to HTML and Web standards, and the
concept of modular Web design all the way through responsive design and
multimedia. No prior experience with markup or programming languages is
required.

 

The Web Design and Development eCourse will run asynchronously for 12 weeks
beginning June 2, 2014. The cost of the course is $1000, and participants
will receive a certificate of completion.

The Emerging Future: Technology Issues and Trends MOOC

Coming this fall, the SJSU information school is excited to continue its
massive open online course (MOOC) program offerings with the Emerging
Future: Technology Issues and Trends MOOC

online course open to everyone.

 

The Emerging Future: Technology Issues and Trends MOOC brings focus to the
planning skills that are needed, the issues that are involved, and the
current trends as we explore the potential impact of technological
innovations. 

 

Participants will experience an interactive online learning environment via
a wide range of tools and diverse materials, and they will have an
opportunity to:

 

*	Explore the current technological environment
*	Become immersed in the literature and practices of current futurists
*	Select appropriate resources to use in planning for new technologies
*	Discuss key impact factors and trends affecting our personal and
global existence
*	Engage with peers and instructors, heightening their learning and
taking full advantage of this professional development opportunity
*	Earn badges and MOOC certification on completion of activities
related to each of the modules
