Greetings to all public libraries and parties who are thinking about presenting a conference session at the 2015 OLA Annual Conference which will want sponsorship from PLD:

If you saw this email from the Conference Committee and thought Yikes, I'd better get my act together, welcome to the club. PLD will be doing its very best to meet the deadline set by the Conference Committee for conference proposals as well. If you read the below email, you also noted that this year, proposers are required to get division support prior to proposal submission. Therefore, this means that you will need to get in touch with the Division in question well before the end of September, not leaving you or the Divisions a whole lot of time.

The PLD Board is meeting this Friday, September 12. At that meeting, we will consider all of the proposal ideas which have been sent to us. If you have an idea, no matter how half formed or half baked, please consider getting it to me prior to Friday. Then we can consider it as a group. Even a sentence or two would be helpful.

If you cannot get me something by Friday, this does not mean you are shut out. Not at all. But it would be ever so helpful.

Thanks all!

Subject: [Libs-Or] Call for proposals - OLA 2015 Conference

OLA 2015 Conference:
Libraries Cultivating Creativity

"Creativity" is not easily definable, but as librarians, we are familiar with the term, especially as we are all asked to think more creatively in order to enhance our libraries or to meet our continued challenges. It is understood that creativity is not limited to new inventions, products, or firms, but can also include revisions, enhancements, or new processes. An article in the Chronicle of Higher Education titled "Let's Gets Serious About Cultivating Creativity" by Steven Tepper and George Kuh states that creative people:

 *   approach problems in non routine ways using analogy and metaphor;
 *   pose "what if" question;
 *   see new or unexpected patterns;
 *   face ambiguity and uncertainty;
 * use feedback to revise and improve an idea; and
 * bring people, power, and resources together to implement or communicate novel ideas.

The Oregon Library Association Conference Committee is looking for program and preconference proposals for the 2015 Conference - Libraries Cultivating Creativity - to be held at the Eugene Hilton & Conference Center in Eugene, OR, April 15-17. We are interested in proposals on how you or your library have been creative in cultivating your workplace or your library community. Check out the Summer 2014 OLAQ issue, http://commons.pacificu.edu/olaq/, to get a broad sense of creativity and to spark your own creative ideas.

At this point the program does not have to be fully organized; you can give us a general idea of the program and speakers (if known), and fill in the other details asked on the proposal form. Each preconference or program must be sponsored by an OLA unit, so before submitting the form, please contact appropriate unit(s) to discuss potential sponsorship ((http://www.olaweb.org/ola-units).

Submit a program proposal: https://ola.memberclicks.net/index.php?option=com_mc&view=mc&mcid=form_174724

Proposals are due September 30, 2014. Notifications will go out November 4th.
