More than 5 million Americans currently suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease and
other dementias. More than 15 million family members and friends provide
them with unpaid care in addition to the myriad number of paid caregivers.
The Alzheimer’s Association projects that the number of diagnosed persons
will nearly triple by 2050. Librarians need to be prepared to serve this
large and growing segment of their communities. The *Alzheimer’s and
Related Dementias Interest Group* (IGARD), part of ASCLA, is charged with
creating standards for providing programs and services to this too-often
forgotten population.

A hearing on the initial framework for these standards is scheduled for
Sat., June 27, 2015 at 10:30 am at the ALA Annual Conference in San
Francisco - <http://alaac15.ala.org/node/29041>
http://alaac15.ala.org/node/29041. If you are going to ALA, please
consider attending this meeting. Your input is vital for the development
of these standards. If you can’t attend, please pass this information on
to others who might be able to join in this important discussion. I hope
to meet you in San Francisco!

Please excuse any cross postings.

Chair, IGARD
