Thanks to everyone who responded to my recent query about headphones. For interested parties, here is a summary of how Oregon libraries handle headphones, as gathered from 14 respondents both public and academic:

Headphones available for checkout: 5
No headphones, but earbuds on sale for cheap (usually $1.00): 3
Headphones at all workstations, secured: 2
Headphones at all workstations, unsecured: 2
Headphones available upon request (but not checked out): 1
No headphones available: 1

Subject: [Libs-Or] Securing headphones to adult computers

For those of you that have headphones attached to each of your adult computers, how do you secure them?

We have been handing out headphones informally for two years, however we are now considering purchasing a pair for each of our adult computers. We are looking for a good solution to "tether" or otherwise secure the headphones to the computers. Ideally, we'd like to have an audio jack splitter with our headphones secured into one side and an opening on the other side so users can insert their own headphones as desired.
