Some of you may have seen that the Oregon Shakespeare Festival vs.
Shakespeare Books & Antiques brouhaha was noted in the ALA Office of
Intellectual Freedom's 8/17/16 newsletter
<http://www.oif.ala.org/oif/?p=7139>.

Members of the community in Ashland have been continuing to respond and
speak out about the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's response to a
book display at the Shakespeare Books & Antiques bookstore. As previously
noted, the Oregon Library Association leadership and the OLA Intellectual
Freedom Committee have made ourselves available to support local
librarians' efforts in whatever way they think will be most useful.

OLA president Jane Corry is contacting the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's
executive director, on behalf of herself and the OLA Intellectual Freedom
Committee co-chairs, expressing our concern about the festival's actions
and letting them know that this situation has attracted the attention of
librarians around the state.

The Ashland Daily Tidings <http://www.dailytidings.com/> website is a good
place to check for continuing news coverage, editorials, and letters to the
editor about the situation. Some of their articles are not viewable without
creating an account, but creating one is free and easy and lets a user view
10 articles per month. There have not been recent news articles focused
specifically on this situation, but thoughtful letters to the editor
continue to appear each day on the website and there has been coverage of
local community forums related to racism.

Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest, voiced their opinions,
and passed on information related to this. Please feel free to contact me
or my Intellectual Freedom Committee co-chair, Krista Reynolds, if you have
any questions for us.

-Ross
