Emporia State University's School of Library and Information Management<https://www.emporia.edu/slim/> (SLIM) seeks a non-tenure-track instructor to teach in its ALA-accredited MLS programs, and to provide coordination for its certificate programs. The position is for a 12-month, annually renewable contract, and includes generous health insurance and retirement benefits<http://www.emporia.edu/humres/current-employee/employee-benefits.html>.
This position carries a 3-3-3 teaching load, and is responsible for coordination of MLS concentrations and certificate programs, including archives studies, informatics, youth services, or leadership and administration in information organizations, as well as working directly with the SLIM dean on course scheduling and evaluation processes.
All SLIM faculty are expected to teach at least two courses in the current core curriculum: LI801 Foundations of Library and Information Science, LI802 Information Seeking Behavior and Reference Services, LI804 Organization of Information, LI805 Management and Information Organizations, LI810 Research in Library and Information Science, LI815 Information Technology, and LI855 Collection Development and Management. Research and/or teaching experience in two of these areas is preferred. Qualifications:
The minimum education requirement for the successful candidate is an MLS degree from an ALA accredited institution; preference will be given to candidates with a PhD in library science or a related discipline, or ABD with an anticipated Spring 2017 graduation date. Other desired qualifications are experience teaching completely online, or in a blended format with a course management program such as Canvas; practical experience within a library or information organization; experience or interest in program administration; and a commitment to service.

About the Department:
Emporia State is a regional institution with an emphasis on teaching. The SLIM culture is based on a collegial cooperative approach to developing and delivering the curriculum. SLIM core courses are taught by full-time faculty; many elective courses are taught by practitioners who serve on the SLIM national adjunct faculty. Over two-thirds of SLIM courses are taught in weekend-intensive classes supplemented by online instruction via Canvas and Zoom and/or other web conferencing applications; the remaining elective courses are all taught online.
Weekend-intensive classes for SLIM's MLS program are taught at the Emporia campus as well as at SLIM's regional locations in Portland, Salt Lake City, Denver, and Kansas City/Overland Park. Regional Directors in all locations provide professional student advising and assist faculty with technology and other forms of classroom support. Admissions, advising, curriculum, and classroom policies are governed by the faculty.
