Greetings all,

There's more fun to raise a glass to this month, and this time, it's for Oregon's Brewing History, which will be honored at an Archives Month Celebration this weekend.

The Oregon State Archives, along with representatives from the Oregon Hops Commission and the Salem Brewery Association, will be on hand at the State Archives building from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.

The free event will showcase Oregon's hops history with state records, case files, original legislation, court cases and trademark records on display. The materials will tell the story of how Oregon became a brewing mecca, and why a dry state (Prohibition was in effect here in 1916 while it didn't official begin nationally until 1920) such as Oregon gave way to so many home brewers.

A family friendly event with free non-alcoholic beverages and snacks available, there will be beer tastings and beer available for purchase through the commission and association. Passport books stamped at different activity tables, when completed, will be entered into a drawing for prizes including the most recent version of the "Oregon Blue Book."

All proceeds from the annual open house will benefit start-up members of the Salem Brewery Association.

The Oregon State Archives building is located at 800 Summer St. NE., Salem, OR 97310.

Sincerely,

Austin Schulz, MA, CA
