[Libs-Or] Non-Holdable Book Collections

Like many libraries, we have a "Lucky Day" collection of popular new books that are Non-Holdable. We've started small and are thinking about adding more copies of more books. We're interested in hearing how other libraries approach this. We're looking at books for now, not DVD's (we'll tackle that next). If you have simple purchase guidelines that you'd like to share, we'd love to see them. Or if you have answers to any or all of these questions:

- Do you have a formula for how many Non-Holdable vs. Regular copies you buy?

- Do you base the number of Non-Holdable books you buy on the number of holds? Or some other criteria?

- When do you decide a book no longer will be Non-Holdable? When the holds list is down to 0? After a certain time period?

- After a book is done with its Non-Holdable run, do you withdraw it? Reassign to the regular collection? Something else?

- We're also interested in any other words of wisdom you'd like to share....

I'll send a compilation of responses to the list...Thanks!
