I am looking for suggestions on dealing with conflicts within small discussion groups that meet at the library (book group, discussion groups, etc.) and are considered library programs, open to the public. I have a Writer's Group that meets monthly, facilitated by a volunteer. I received a complaint from a group member who feels very uncomfortable with another member in the group. The facilitator has also brought up problems with this group member and we suspect that it is affecting attendance in the group. Part of the problem can be addressed (group member tends to interrupt and monopolize conversation). However, part of the problem is a personality conflict (harder to address). Any examples of similar situations and how it was dealt with? Either by the facilitator or by staff intervention. I imagine some groups just dissolve with these type of conflicts and would like to keep our group going. Thank you in advance for your input.
