Tech-Talk: GRAPHICS - New and Classic WordArt Designs
Intermediate

[New WordArt]

   New WordArt (2007-2016)

Have you ever wished you could get the "old", classic WordArt choices back? (Office 2003 and earlier.)

If you have Office 2007 or later (as everyone does now) you may have noticed that Microsoft eliminated many of the cool designs it used to have.

No one seems to know why they took out some of the fun styles (like rainbow and gradient) that added a splash of spice and color to documents.

[Classic WordArt]

 Classic WordArt (2003 & earlier)

However, if you want to use those options offered in Word 2003 and earlier, you can! And you don't even have to go to a different, older computer.

There's a little trick to getting that functionality back: you just "save as" the document as the older (97-2003) version!

When you do that, you get the original choices back!

Access Classic WordArt

[Save as older version]If you want to go back to the classic WordArt options:

  * Open a new blank document.

  * To access classic WordArt, first Save the file as an earlier version document. Go to File, Save As, navigate to where you want to save the file and under Save as Type, choose Word 97-2003 (.doc)... or PPT 97-2003 (.ppt) or Excel 97-2003 (.xlx)

  * Now when you go to the Insert tab in the Text section and click on WordArt, you'll see the classic styles.

You can use these styles to create colorful headers with rainbow colors ... or gradient text.

If you want, when you're done with the WordArt, you can "save as" the document in the newer version of Word (PPT, Excel) (.docx, .pptx, .xlsx) ... the designs you've chosen will remain.

CAUTION: You may have to resize or re-position the WordArt once it is converted. But that's easy to do!

[Communications]Email: The Postscript (P.S.)
Use this powerful tool strategically!

You don't need to have an "after-thought" to use a postscript (P.S.) in your email communications.

In fact, the more you use it, the more effective your messages will be! (Sure, it's only one P.S. per message, but you can't "wear out" the technique with too much use.)
Why is this so? Because the text after a P.S. is the second most important (most read)
part of an email.

  * When people skim, they'll always read the postscript.

  * When going over a message carefully, one latches on to the importance of anything that is in the P.S.

  * It's the last thing people read ... so it lingers in the mind.
Ideas for what to put in a postscript.

  * Reinforcing / repeating / rephrasing the one thing you want someone to do or to remember.
P.S. The deadline for the contest is April 30th!

  * Position an additional important message here instead of in the main message block. Example: An email touting the upcoming conference in your industry.
P.S. After you've registered, be sure to get your hotel reserved.
