[Libs-Or] Library Movers?

As the current director of the Hermiston Public Library, who only arrived in August of last year, I checked with staff who were here at the time. They unloaded the books and then moved the assembles stacks with the nylon/plastic slides you can buy. The best solution I've seen are stack movers, a company with the equipment must be hired. These units attach to the stack frames, lift the entire stack loaded with books, and since the lifters are on wheels you move the whole range at once. You do need to have room to move them to and back. Search library stack movers on google, or you tube, you'll find a few. Good luck!

Ask Hermiston Public Library. It seems to me that Walmart came in and
shrink-wrapped their shelves and moved them with a forklift. Our shelves
are bolted to the floor, but in the old library, we left the wall units in
place and removed everything else from the floor. We found free warehouse
storage and boxed books with the help of some high school students during
school time. (easier to get volunteers and teacher-supervision that way.)
Our collection is half your size. (That's my disclaimer.)

We moved a lot of our shelves by ourselves using the large teflon furniture
movers you find at walmart or Fred Myers.

Hello,
We need to change the carpet under our stacks. The carpet company says the
stacks need to be moved in order to get the carpet in place. Have any of you
dealt with this problem? Did you use a library moving company? If so which
one? How did it go? We are a relatively small library with about 20,000
items.
This may not be of interest to the wider group so I will happily and
appreciatively receive responses at jtapper at uws.edu<mailto:jtapper at uws.edu>
.
Thanks!
~Janet
