Information Literacy Librarian (Tenure-Track)

Position Summary:
The college seeks a librarian candidate for this tenure-track faculty position. A successful candidate would  contribute to critical conversations surrounding and application of "new librarianship" in an emerging library mission focused on facilitating creation, sharing, and application of knowledge in addition to discovery and access.  The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated success in teaching and learning, and basic technological aptitude with an interest in further development and growth of hard skills.

Centralia College
Established in 1925, Centralia College is the oldest continuously operating community college in the state of Washington. The college has a demonstrated commitment to student success. Our completion rates and progression of our students to further education are firmly established and a source of pride. We offer not only a full range of two-year degrees, but also currently four-year degree options with more in development. A community college in the truest sense, we are in the center of Centralia, WA, on a tree-lined, 30+ acre campus. Centralia boasts easy access to both rural and urban environments, and features a vibrant downtown and community life. Artistic and cultural events are community mainstays. The college serves Lewis and south Thurston counties with a combined population of over 75,000. Centralia is located in southwestern Washington, conveniently positioned between the international airports of Seattle-Tacoma and Portland, and ideally situated for access to the unique amenities that the region has to offer, including rich recreational and cultural activities and attractions.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

*         Design, teach and assess course-specific instruction and other learning experiences that develop information literacy skills and enhance critical thinking up through baccalaureate level.

*         Develop, share, and teach online learning resources and be fluent in using and applying current educational technology and communication media in an academic setting.

*         Engage faculty and support implementation of information literacy standards across the curriculum through instruction sessions, workshops and other modes.

*         Collect, compile, and analyze pertinent library instruction data and prepare appropriate reports.

*         Assess the learning and research needs of students and faculty to inform the development of appropriate outreach services, learning outcomes and instructional approaches.

*         Apply and evaluate existing and new assessment approaches to inform evidence-based instruction and library services.

*         Keep current with emerging teaching, learning and technology trends and continuously assess their use for library services. Contribute to a sharing and collegial environment through active engagement in the academic community.

*         Work collaboratively with librarians, faculty, staff, and students on instruction, reference, assessment and collection development activities within assigned subject discipline(s).

*         Participate in library and college committees as assigned.

*         Contribute to supporting and growing adoption of open education activities across the campus encouraging and generating broad participation by departments, faculty, and students.

*         Contribute to library strategic planning in order to advance the college's evolving goals in respect to pedagogical, information, and technology changes.

*         Contribute to an emerging library standard that focuses on community-building, participatory culture, and facilitation of learning and creating, while maintaining discovery and access as critical components of those values in action.

*         Participate in shared collegial decision making and planning through service on campus-wide committees.

*         Consistently demonstrate leadership, high motivation, and creativity, while delivering on professional responsibilities.
Qualifications
Required

*         Master's degree in library and/or information science (or its equivalent) from an ALA-accredited library program.

*         Experience with developing and delivering information literacy, with demonstrated knowledge of active learning approaches and outcomes assessment; experience in an academic setting preferred.

*         Experience supporting technology applications; experience in supporting library specific technology applications preferred.
Preferred

*         Experience developing, implementing and assessing information literacy instruction and other library services and initiatives.

*         Familiarity with issues in open education, open textbooks, open access, copyright, and intellectual property.

*         Experience with project management.

*         Experience or interest in applying user-centered assessment methods to measure and understand user needs in order to develop services and initiatives to meet their needs.

*         Ability to use and adapt to a range of library and education technologies, including web-based publishing, presentation tools, and various media types.

*         Flexibility and adaptability to accept, manage, and incorporate change and a willingness to experiment with various models for best meeting the needs of our students.

*         High level of digital literacy, including ability to adapt to new technologies.
