Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Libraries for Research Services,
the Director of Branch Libraries has administrative, programmatic, and
operational responsibilities for all of the branch libraries, except
for the Law Library. The director exercises supervisory and oversight
authority for librarians, officers of administration, classified
staff, and student assistants. The position is responsible for
responding to the needs of faculty, students, staff, and the public.

This position provides strategic leadership and oversight for assigned
areas in the position’s portfolio, but also contributes significant
hands-on work related to library-wide strategic planning and
evaluation. The Director supervises 4.0 FTE non-tenure-track faculty
(NTTF) and 3.0 FTE officers of administration as direct reports, and
is responsible for oversight of an additional 6.5 FTE permanent
employees and a large number of student assistants working within the
branch libraries. The position provides leadership as the
administrative sponsor for the Data Visualization Working Group, the
Emerging Technologies Working Group, and ad hoc strategic groups as
needed, and will be asked to provide subject liaison duties as needed.
The incumbent serves as a member of the Library Council and
participates in appropriate professional development activities and
organizations to stay current with trends and practices in the field,
and to meet criteria for promotion and retention.
