If It's February in an Even Numbered Year, It's Short Session

Oregon's legislative short session convenes on Monday, February 5, 2018. Given the mandated 35 day schedule for the session, there's not much time to stay on top of legislative activities. The Oregon Legislative Information System (OLIS) resource can be a huge help in monitoring bills of particular interest. OLIS is available via the Oregon State Legislature's website<https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz>.

The progress of bills and the work of committees can be "tracked" via the e-Subscribe service or RSS via OLIS. The resource is near real-time which means meeting schedules, bill votes, and newly introduced legislation is available within a short amount of time. Live video feeds and audio archives are also available. Particularly useful is easy access to testimony presented by interested parties in support of or in opposition to a bill as well as session publications. Formerly elusive committee votes are also available.

One last tip: Use The Oregonian's Your Government<http://gov.oregonlive.com/> resource to obtain access, in blocks of 20, to the legislator's votes on the floor of their respective chamber.

2018 LSTA Grant Application Window is Open

The 2018 LSTA grant application and instructions are now available on the State Library of Oregon's website<http://www.oregon.gov/osl/LD/Pages/LSTA/grants/apply/index.aspx>. Applicants who would like to receive feedback from the State Library's Library Support and Development Division staff and the LSTA Advisory Council may submit a draft application by 1:00 p.m. on February 15, 2018. Final applications are due on April 4, 2018 by 1:00 p.m. Projects will be approved by the State Library Board on June 20, 2018. If you have any questions about the grant process, please contact Ross Fuqua<mailto:ross.fuqua at state.or.us> (503-378-5027).
