Greetings,

Below is a compilation of various online learning events: some free, some for a cost, some are "webinars", and some are online courses.

Free Webinars (Infopeople)

Facilitating Multi-Dimensional Listening: Helping Groups Identify Common Ground while Acknowledging Differences<https://infopeople.org/civicrm/event/info?id=740&reset=1>, Feb 7, 2018 @noon Pacific
Many of us are familiar with the practice of "active listening." This webinar will help facilitators and discussion leaders further develop their skills to listen beneath the surface of what's being said. You will receive instruction in advanced facilitation concepts supported by examples from fellow librarians. Skill in multi-dimensional listening is particularly relevant in today's society that bombards us with things intended to make us react instead of respond. Learn how to help the entire group listen together more skillfully for clues to where there might be common ground while respecting differences that arise. Join us to hone your listening and facilitation skills and bring questions from your own experiences.

This session is hosted by the California State Library, represented by Suzanne Flint. The lead presenter will be Susan Stuart Clark, Common Knowledge Group, with case examples provided by Danis Kreimeier, Napa County Library and Carolyn Brooks, El Dorado County Library.

For more information and to register please visit: https://infopeople.org/civicrm/event/info?id=740&reset=1

Facilitating Constructive Contributions: Dealing with Difficult Behaviors; Helping People Share from a Better Place<https://infopeople.org/civicrm/event/info?id=741&reset=1>, March 7, 2018 @Noon Pacific

Basic facilitation skills involve keeping a group on topic and on time. But what happens when a participant needs special attention? This webinar will identify common types of disruptive behavior and share multiple methods for facilitators to keep the conversation constructive. We'll discuss what kinds of factors lead caring people to become the "difficult" ones to better understand which strategy to use when. We'll also review how to create the conditions that reduce the likelihood of difficult of behaviors in the first place. Bring questions from your own challenging facilitation moments for the extended question and answer session.

This session is hosted by the California State Library, represented by Suzanne Flint. The lead presenter will be Susan Stuart Clark, with case examples curated from California librarians experienced in facilitating challenging participants.

Understanding and Applying Adult Learning Theory to Improve Library Services<https://infopeople.org/civicrm/event/info?id=739&reset=1>, an Infopeople 4-week online course, February 6 - March 5, 2018
Whether it's helping people find information, showing them how to use a new technology tool, or connecting them to resources, providing instruction is an essential aspect of modern library services to adults. Even though most librarians and library staff don't consider themselves teachers, their day to day responsibilities often put them in the role of trainer, teacher, coach and/or facilitator.

This course will:
* Introduce practical ideas for applying adult learning principles in order to improve one-on-one assistance, instruction and library programming.
* Demonstrate how people learn in order to increase the chance that the information will "stick."
* Explain how to apply adult learning theories to workplace scenarios, analyze patron interactions to determine when the principles will be beneficial to use, and develop goals for helping adults learn in the library.

Instructor: Lauren Hays<https://infopeople.org/people/lauren-hays>

Fee: $150 for those in the California, $200 for all others.

Cultural Intelligence in the Library Workplace<https://infopeople.org/civicrm/event/info?id=747&reset=1>, an Infopeople 4-week online course, March 20, 2018-April 16, 2018
Is your library serving an increasingly diverse community? Do you want to improve your interactions with and understanding of different cultures? Cultural awareness and understanding our unconscious biases are critical first steps towards improving our job performance, however, we cannot stop there. Awareness alone does not guarantee success, but the ultimate question is how to take that awareness and put it into action by using cultural intelligence in order to ensure these biases do not influence judgments about others.

During the course, you will learn to:
* Identify sources of unconscious bias
* Develop strategies to combat and manage bias
*         Explain cultural intelligence
* Develop and apply cultural intelligence at work and beyond
* Create a personal cultural intelligence development plan

Please Note: All course participants will be required to take an online cultural intelligence assessment during the first week of the course. Access information will be provided by the instructor on the first day of the course. Each participant will need to pay $25 (this cost is not included in the course fee) to take the assessment online. A feedback report will be provided to each participant via email.

Instructor: Dr. Michele Villagran<https://infopeople.org/people/michele-l-villagran>

Fee: $150 for those in the California library community, $200 for all others (plus $25 fee for online assessment to be taken during first week of course)

The following are a mix of free and for-cost archived training opportunities. Many of these look quite good!

Google Analytics
Data is revolutionizing the way we live, communicate and do business. However, harnessing the full power of data has only begun to be realized by those who can afford it. How do small, cash-strapped nonprofits compete in this data landscape? Insert: Google Analytics. Google Analytics is a free web analytics service that tracks and reports website traffic. Behind the scenes, Google Analytics runs on every single page of your site. How much time do people spend on your site? How much time do they spend reading a specific article? What do they click? What location of the site do they go to? Google Analytics answers all of those questions, and many more, to ensure that your nonprofit can optimize its impact.
