Ready to Read Grants for 2018
[https://www.oregon.gov/osl/LTLO/LTLOJan2018/Jan2018LTLO_ready2read.jpg]The 2018 Ready to Read grants were distributed to public libraries last month. Public libraries received a total of $731,506 in state funds, an average of $1.01 per child 0-14 years old.
Funds from the Ready to Read grant can be spent on three identified best practices for youth services: early literacy training, outreach to local underserved families, and the summer reading program.

Other Library News

AASL Released New National School Library Standards
[Stan3]In November 2017, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) published the National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries. The publication replaces the 2009 version for students, Standards for the 21st-Century Learner, and a few other prior publications.
All of the work is based on a set of six common beliefs<http://standards.aasl.org/beliefs/> about the profession, and each of the three standards frameworks is anchored by six shared foundations - Inquire, Include, Collaborate, Curate, Explore, and Engage. These infographics<http://standards.aasl.org/project/foundations/> summarize each shared foundation.
The full Standards Framework for Learners<http://standards.aasl.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/AASL-Learner-Framework-Spread.pdf> is available online<http://standards.aasl.org/framework/> at no cost, and there is a related pamphlet<http://standards.aasl.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/AASL-Standards-Framework-for-Learners-pamphlet.pdf> that offers more information. The Standards Framework for School Librarians and the one for school libraries are only available in the app or book<http://standards.aasl.org/shop/>.
For more information, explore the standards website<http://standards.aasl.org/> or email<mailto:jennifer.maurer at state.or.us?subject=AASL%20Standards> Jennifer Maurer, the School Library Consultant in Library Support and Development.
