For those of us with Lynda.com subscriptions or interest in privacy issues:

Corvallis-Benton County Public Library has not renewed Lynda.com due to privacy concerns with their upcoming transition to LinkedIn Learning. In a nutshell, our users would have been required to create a public LinkedIn profile. Follow the links below for details.

A huge thank you to everyone for your support! Yesterday, ALA issues a press release urging LinkedIn<http://www.ala.org/news/member-news/2019/07/ala-urges-linkedin-learning-reconsider-changes-terms-service-impair-library> to change its new terms of service and the State Library of California recommended that libraries<http://www.library.ca.gov/Content/pdf/pressreleases/CSL_Press_Release_LinkedInLearning_7.22.2019_Final.pdf> not continue with the migration. We were originally planning to post our statement with all of your libraries listed to the Choose Privacy website, but ALA expressed concerns over anti-trust laws. Instead, EveryLibrary has joined on in support and we have a petition started on their platform<https://action.everylibrary.org/linkedin?fbclid=IwAR3jG0IhbRwnBehsvI7QGHDlnXTjJMTWnv6s0YzCJv4Tycg6SUsgS7IM2FU>.

Please share this with your networks as we use this to empower libraries and display publicly to LinkedIn that libraries across the country will not sit by and let privacy rights be stripped away. We are continuing to work on further op-ed pieces and connections with the media. There have been several media postings already, including BoingBoing<https://bbs.boingboing.net/t/linkedin-to-libraries-drop-dead/148249> and ZDNet<https://www.zdnet.com/article/american-library-association-blasts-linkedin-for-intrusive-tos-changes/>. Now is the time for all of us to signal boost. If you haven't already, send these articles and statements out to your state associations, boards, and personal networks. Thank you again for working with us and for your library's commitment to privacy!
