Shattering the Silence: Breaking Down Barriers on Sexual Harassment in
Libraries
Free Sexual Harassment Training Open To All Types of Libraries, All
Administrators, All Board Members, All Library Staff, and All HR
Professionals. This training is especially designed for libraries
discussing both employee and patron sexual harassment. The topics listed
below are general but will address specific issues that fall under each
category. Additionally, there will be handouts, suggested readings, and
five autographed copies of “Be Fierce” by Gretchen Carlson given away.
When: Friday, September 20, 2019
Where: Johnson County, KS (Location specifics given to registrants only)
Time: 9:00 a.m. -3:00p.m.

Topics: -Understanding Sexual Harassment -The Psychology of Sexual
Harassment - Breaking It All Down
Sara Eckinger will present on Understanding Sexual Harassment. Sara is the
Program Officer at Avila University, in Kansas City, MO, and her expertise
is in sexual violence. Sara has an undergraduate degree in Justice Studies
and a graduate degree in Psychology. Journalist Sunni Battin will present
on Breaking It All Down.
Sunni is an award-winning writer who has written for such organizations as
the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the Denver Voice amongst others.
Her primary work is in investigative journalism and features. Starting in
January 2018, Sunni began researching and interviewing on the topic of
sexual harassment and her written piece will be published in late June. Her
educational background includes an undergraduate degree in English and
graduate degrees in Library and Information Science and Organizational
Development.
***A special guest speaker will present on The Psychology of Sexual
Harassment and will be announced closer to the training to all registrants.
***Food and drinks are not provided. There will be a lunch break and there
are several eating establishments within walking and driving distance. Hope

For the past 18 months, She has researched, interviewed, and written on the
topic of sexual harassment in libraries. The first part of a series came

She is starting a one-year task force in which the chosen team will be
choose one project to take on and educate the public. The commitment is
completely online and is from September 30, 2019-September 30, 2020.
