The Newberg Public Library is delighted to announce Will Worthey as our new library director!

New library director selected

The City of Newberg is pleased to announced Will Worthey has accepted the position of library director.  Worthey is currently the director of the North Plains Public Library in Washington County and had previously been director at the Garden Home Community Library.  Earlier he worked at Tualatin and Lake Oswego libraries and was a children’s librarian in Oak Ridge Tennessee for seven years before relocating to Oregon.   Will has his master’s degree in library science from Strathclyde University, Scotland.

Worthey impressed the interview committee with his background and knowledge, his commitment to developing new and innovative library services and his interest in listening to the community, staff and library users to direct his actions.   He is looking forward to becoming a part of the Newberg community.   He will be starting the first of July.

Worthey is replacing retiring library director, Leah Griffith, who is leaving  after 27 years of service.   A public retirement reception for Griffith is planned at the library on her last day, Thursday, June 20th from 4 to 6 pm.   Everyone is invited to stop by to say goodbye.
